NewsLetter 2 - 2010  Mid Season

Good rains late in the season has provided the game with very good winter forage. This will with no doubt be great for the upcoming birth season. All the animals are in great condition and we are only doing a small amount of substance feeding to date.  The winter days have been cold and made bow hunting tough around the water blinds in July and August.

During the soccer World Cup period we kept things going on some local SA hunters and a few photo safaris with one Danish safari in early June by one of our investors John Hald.

Piet - Tsepho -  Info - Alice - Katvis - Jolly -  Os (The Bug Team from Gauteng)

First up in late May was our loyal and royal BUG team from Pretoria - Gauteng. These guys have been hunting with us now for the past five years. It is truly an honor to have locals like this that share our passion for hunting and conservation and the added respect they have for it!

These guys have become real friends to us all here at TG Safaris. This year they contributed well to our season by taking a giraffe and several plains game species amongst which for the second year in a row the ostrich head shot at 100 yards! Hey it is all about the thrill of the stalk to get that done and then the good meat to utilize!

Our second group of SA hunters  was set up by Attie Flemix who has  hunted with us before and has been  trying to get a booking with us for  the past three years. This time he booked early enough and got a  spot in June bringing a group with  him!

They bagged a large number of animals among some being their  first kills as you can see the initiation facial markings.

The Wyant family

Dan & Kathy Wyant with their son & his girlfriend was one of our photo safari groups in June. Their Safari was set up by Amanda to whom they were referred by good friends and clients Kathy & Hooker Browning from Arcadia, FL.
Only a few days of their trip was spent with us and amongst a few activities other than soccer games they visited the Treetop Canopy tours in Magoebas kloof nearby SRH (Sand River Hills).
They were here for a short time, but left with fond memories and as great friends of TG Safaris!

Hald Group from Denmark
Early June and our friends from Denmark from two years back came to share some time with us again. Amongst the familiar faces were a few new ones!

John Hald

John, thank you for the loyal support, business and friendship.  I hope to continue this relation with  you and your family into the  future.

Brown Hyena & Benand

We had a call in late July from our neighbor who had a Brown Hyena coming into his Nyala breeding pen. Needless to say some havoc was caused by the time we received the word.

I gave Benand a call, he became a personal friend after we made his dream of getting a leopard a reality in 2010. He writes a several page monthly article in the African Outfitter magazine and is a huge dedicated hunter. Keep a lookout for the magazine on the shelves, as our clients may be featured in each issue.

A problem Hyena like this is usually very clever. On our first try we had a full moon and almost got him before the clouds dampened our chances. The spotlight was not even an option as this guy disappeared at any sign of that. We kept the Hyena on bait for almost a month. Giving us his cooperation for this period we were able to utilize the next full moon. Sitting from an hour before sunset our first sign of him was at twilight. We had to wait another hour before his silhouette remained still enough for Benand to squeeze the trigger with the crosshairs on the Hyena's shoulder. A loud bone chilling scream followed and then it was quiet. After our hearts stopped pounding 30 minutes later we found this beautiful animal laying less than 5 yards from the bait.

Congratulations Benand!

Doug Page from Rochester NY,  booked his first safari with us  a year out for his African  safari of a lifetime - Getting his  Cape Buffalo!

Doug and Arno hunted this 40" Buffalo at our Matoppi Ranch  concession. Great shooting skills were displayed when he dropped this beauty with one shot.

Bob Milam, personal friend, filled his list of bringing his family members on safari this year in accompanying his daughter Kiaran on her first African safari.

Kiaran took some beautiful animals with her bow.
Amongst which a beautiful Kudu bull!

This safari held some special moments as Bob and I have planned this safari for Kiaran for the past 5 years, and it finally became a reality!

Bob did have a chance to take a Blue Wildebeest on stalk and to top his safari with a beautiful  Nyala bull at SRH (Sand River Hills). Then came the road trip at Hippo Pools and Tangala for the Big Five experience where they absolutely had a blast!

Bob, I have to thank you and your family for your continued friendship & trust.

As we continue our journey through 2010, the end of the season is in sight and we see a lot of interest for the 2011 season. Thank you for your business and support to date.

We look forward to yet another successful season in the near future.
